little wing....

my hubby loves his music and recently we watched a program called the seven ages of rock.  just watching it made me fall in love with the 1970s and the music scene then. one of my faves was the episode about jimi hendrix, what an amazing but also sad and tragic life.  a song of his i could listen over and over to at the moment is "little wing".

i have added corinne bailey rae's cover version of this song as she seems to put such raw emotion in the song.

thought this song would also present nicely some pics that i took of my friend Jenna las week.  she asked me to do some head shots of her for castings (jenna is a dancer/performer).  below is what we finished up with :)

Well, she's walking through the clouds,
With a circus mind that's running wild,
Butterflies and Zebras,
And Moonbeams and fairy tales.
That's all she ever thinks about.
Riding with the wind.

When I'm sad, she comes to me,
With a thousand smiles she gives to me free.
It's alright, she says it's alright,
Take anything you want from me,
Anything.
Fly on little wing.

bold and underlined....

for the first time ever the other day my hubby came to help me with a photo shoot.  he was actually quite helpful, seeing good places to take shots and i gave him the job of 'gaffer' carrying the equipment and helping with the reflector for the right lighting. I might hire him :)

these are the shots we took, of our good friend Julian Adams.  As he was here in South Africa for a while on holiday he asked me to take some shots of him for his new website.  We went along to Kalk Bay, which is a great location for good rustic shots, and started off in Julian's favourite coffee shop, Olympia.  (Thanks Olympia for being so accommodating and for the good cappuccinos!)

have quite a few busy months ahead with a few shoots booked, feel really privileged and excited! so watch this space!

while you have a peek at the shots, would like to introduce my new fave band at the moment, Future of Forestry.

Enjoy! :)

it was on a starry night....

first blog post of 2011! happy new year everyone! hope you all had happy holidays!  ours was really relaxing, just what the doctor ordered :)

haven't had a chance to blog over the holidays, which was not the plan.  but one of my new year resolutions is to blog more, whether i will be able to keep that one i am not sure.  never been good at the whole resolution thing really.  but this new year does feel like a new start and i am really excited.

in my blogging free holidays we hung out with lots of friends, one of which Robert Bingham, who very nicely lent me his Canon 5D for a couple of days.  completely feel in love with this camera and it made my 450D look insignificant in comparison, i actually was quite sad to go back to it.  one of the things Robbie had been boasting about was the 5D's amazing high ISO which gives you the opportunity to shoot very well at night without flash. i decided to put this to the test.  luckily the night was really clear and windy so i tried to experiment photographing starry nights without using bulb or a tripod.  here is what i came out with:

after that i decided to give my lil 450D another chance.  we were going to a farm with some friends for new years, which was in the middle of no where so i wanted to try some star trails.  to be fair the 450D doesn't do badly, and i think i fell in love with it all over again.

then as it was so dark some of us tried light writing, just for fun:

Erm, this is meant to say "LOVE"

...and this "BEC"...

just a smiley

...and some hearts

Ok, so we could practice a bit more on that.......
